October 20th - HAPPY 14TH BIRTHDAY TRAVIS !!!!! Shine by the Newsboys for Travis

I can’t believe how fast time flies. It seems like only yesterday his grandpa and I saw him take his first breath. We were more fortunate than most grandparents, because Travis has lived with us or near us most of his life. What a privilege to be a part of his upbringing; and what an awesome responsibility too!

At 6 months old
Travis has always had a sensitive heart. He gets along with all age groups. He’s not afraid to talk to anyone! Most adults let alone children don’t like to go to the nursing home, but not Travis – he will walk right in and start talking to the first person he sees! He has said that when he gets old enough to volunteer, he wants to volunteer in a nursing home. He says he loves to hear their stories. We have not sheltered Travis from sickness, sadness or sorrow. We believe it’s a part of life that our children need to experience. Travis has been to hospital rooms, nursing homes, hospice, and home health care. He has talked to people before they died and asked them questions; even cried and prayed with them. To hear him pray is such a treat! He has a way of grabbing a hold of the heart of God. I remember the day he asked his mom and dad about Heaven and wanted to know for sure if he was going too. They brought him over to our home and I had the privilege to share Christ with my own grandson and hear him say the sinner’s prayer! We have a bond for life.

Travis is also a funny, goofy child who loves to play games, laugh and act silly. To this day he loves to have his “grandma time”. When he was little that included reading books, and “sugar time” (hugs and kisses). Now that he’s older it’s mostly playing games, talking, and acting silly together. He has always enjoyed helping me around the house, especially if I cook or bake. From the time he’s been five years old Travis has always wanted to be a chef. The Food Network is his favorite channel along with cooking websites.

Travis at I believe 6 years old - We were camping in California and he found a great climbing tree to conquer.

Travis at 13 years old

Most of you know that last Tuesday I lost my constant companion, Lady Kitty to congestive heart failure at only three years old. Travis, knowing how much I loved and enjoyed her felt my pain and sorrow. The next day he GAVE me HIS cat of six years! What an unselfish act - especially for a 14 year old! So here's a picture of my new cat - Halo, pictured here with my Lady Kitty earlier this year.

My Tater Bug,(my nick-name for Travis), is a tall, handsome, sensitive, loving, funny, young man who loves to cook. He will be a great husband for one very special woman one day! I don’t think I am too prejudice when I say I have the best grandson in the world! Happy Birthday Tater Bug!

Michele I love that! I totally know that joy of having a sweet grandson near! Our oldest one (almost 7) has been in our house most of his life. EVERY weekend. And any other time he can convince his mommy.

That is a blessing to have such a giving child...he obviously learned his giving ways from you. What a blessing!
I just had to comment on this one because I know your joy!

Happy Birthday, Travis!

I have many fond memories of spending time with you at your Grandma's house when I would come to visit. We spent lots of time playing games and making stuff. We even had an overnight "camping trip" in the living room one night. Remember that one?

I love you. I'm so glad you are part of the same family!

Love, Aunt Marsha
