Iris who hosts Thankful Thursday has asked us to think back (way back for some of us), and share a Christmas from our childhood – what stayed in our mind all these years…what we are thankful for…
One of things my family always did until my parents divorced when I was 11 years old, was that after we opened our Christmas presents we all got dressed up and went visiting to different family member's homes. As a child I did not appreciate this because I wanted to play with my own toys. We were only aloud to bring with us one special gift from our Christmas. Now that I am older I can appreciate the time we spent with other family members. I am thankful for the special memories of playing with my cousins and visiting with grandparents, aunts and uncles too. The past 34 years since I have been married I have been away from "home" (family) for most of those years. This has made it most difficult to spend the holidays with "extended" family. So I truly Cherish my memories of playing games with my cousins on Christmas Day. I have found that the older I become, I miss family more and more. I used to be so close to my cousins at one time, and now many miles, states and years are between us. If any of my cousins or other family members are reading this post today, please know you are extremely missed and loved! I am thankful for all of my family members. You have played an intricate part in who I am today. Thank you.

What a great memory. Everyone would come to our house for Christmas and stay late to play games, fellowship, and watch Christmas movies. IT was an awesome time as well. I really miss those times too. Have a Blessed Christmas this year Michele.
XO,
Mimi
Thanks for sharing such a nice childhood memory.
I received my book from the giveaway! Thank you.
I remember that. I used to think it was a way torment us.
I also remember the Christmas I was in 1st grade very vividly. I can remember setting out some cookies and a coke because our brother Tom told me Santa didn't like milk. I laid there unable to sleep when I heard a loud burb from downstairs. I just knew Santa was there! So I crept down the stairs and peered through the rails to see Tom and Dad putting accessories on my new bike and Tom drinking Santa's Coke. I was devastated. I wasn't even excited about my new bike the next morning. That's the same Christmas you climbed out of your crib and bit me on the back! You were a biter. It was NOT a good day for me, but I can look back now and laugh. It's the memory that stuck with me the rest of my life. I felt lied to (again). When Mike and I had our kids it was a no brainer - we were NOT going to lie to our kids about Santa.
Love you sis. Merry Christmas. Wish we could be together.
Merry Christmas to you and your family!
Karen
Such a precious memory, love you.
What a wonderful memory.
Big hug.
Merry Christmas.
It can be hard when some of your memories aren't happy and joyful. Mine weren't perfect but I think we cling to what we remember as special. I'm thankful that you had cousins and aunts and uncles. May this Christmas be special for you and your family.
Thank you for sharing your memory. What a wonderful time. We always had my grandparents come to our house but our cousins stayed at their own homes. We are also many miles apart but there is little to keep us in touch with one another. How wonderful that you are so close with your family, even if it's not by miles but by the heart!! Have a blessed Christmas.
Thanks for sharing. Merry Christmas!
What a precious memory! I remember when I was younger doing the same thing. I didn't like being away from my toys and home...as we got older, we stayed home.
Happy New Year!
((hugs))
