I pondered over what I would share during this special time of sharing what we are learning. I am working on several things at one time, the bible study meme the Lord is showing me, Know God Intimately; and I am reading the bible through in one year chronologically. But I also received a very special gift from my precious 14 year old grandson for Christmas. With money someone gave him for Christmas, Travis bought Christmas gifts for his family. Isn’t that sweet? I mean… for a teenager too! Anyway, he gave me a study guide series from Women of Faith, Receiving God’s Love. So I decided I would do a chapter a week, and share what I am learning from this study.
1 John 4:16 “God is LOVE, and all who live in LOVE live in God, and God lives in them.”
1 John 4:8 “But anyone who does not love does not know God – for God is love.”
The first verse tells us that God is Love. So those of us who trust Christ as our Savior has Love, God living in us. But the next verse is a real kicker. If one does not know God, then they cannot know Love! For God and Love is the same thing! This made me think about the evil people in this world who are doing such evil things. Why? And why can’t they stop? Because they don’t have Love, God living in them! They have hate and the ruler of this earth… satan living in them. So what and who do they need? Love, God!
The following verses tell us something special about God’s love:
Psalm 57:10 – God’s love never fails! It reaches the sky!
Psalm 63:3 – God’s unfailing love is better than life itself!
Psalm 108:4 – God’s unfailing love is higher than the heavens!
What a comfort to know that God’s love isn’t stingy. He doesn’t hold back, or put conditions on His love. If we were asked to describe God’s love, we might use some of these words: Great; Unconditional; Amazing; Unchanging; Lavish; Steady; Perpetual; Unwavering; Complete; Deep; Thriving; Faithful; Abundant
In Ephesians 3:18 we read: “May you have the power to understand, as all God’s people should, how wide, how long, how high, and how deep his love really is.” Even if we should begin to grasp how great God’s love for us is, we’d just be scraping the surface. Still, we should try to understand. All God’s people should know with confidence that they are loved.
“The Lord appeared of old to me, saying;’ Yes, I have loved you with an everlasting love; Therefore with loving-kindness I have drawn you.” Jer. 31:3. God’s love is never-ending, everlasting, and eternal. But He doesn’t overwhelm us with the sheer vastness of that love. The Lord is gentle with us. He balances His love with kindness, and gently draws our heart to His.
