Every time I read this verse it brings a smile to my face. To think that the Creator of the Universe thinks about me! Not only that, but God thinks about each and every one of his children on an individual basis. He not only thinks of us, but He ponders and meditates on those precious thoughts. In Jeremiah 29:11 the Lord God says, “For I know the thoughts I think towards you, saith the Lord, thoughts of peace and not evil, to give you an expected end.” What are His thoughts? First He says peace – His peace. It’s not the absence of conflict, its peace in the midst of it! Peace from worry, or anxiety. Peace that passes all understanding. (Phil. 4:6-7). Peace knowing that God is in control in a seemingly uncontrollable world.
Second, God says He does not think or even have plans for evil to befall us. Yes, bad things happen to good people, but that is not God’s plan for us. We live in a sinful world where bad things happen because sin is in this world and Satan and his angels have dominance over this world right now. But Satan cannot touch what is most important to God… God’s expectant end for us; which is only the beginning of an eternal life with Him!
Yes, our God is an awesome God whose thoughts are so precious towards us that He made a way for us to spend all of eternity with Him. Through His beloved Son, who died on the cross for our sins and rose again, we have a marvelous expected end…. Eternal life with an everlasting ever loving merciful God
