My Comforter

If ye love me, keep my commandments. And I will pray the Father, and he shall give you another Comforter, that he may abide with you forever; Even the Spirit of truth; whom the world cannot receive, because it seeth him not, neither knoweth him: but ye know him; for he dwelleth with you, and shall be in you.” John 14:15-17 (KJV)

Sometimes when the weather is cold, or I am sick or just having a bad pain day, I love to wrap myself in a big comfy comforter. If it’s a particular bad day due to my chronic illness I might even pull the comforter over my head to temporarily shield myself from the world.

As much comfort my warm and comfy quilt may give me, it does not match the everlasting comfort I receive from the true Comforter that lives within me. On the days I pull the quilt over my head and cry out in pain, I am also crying out to my great Comforter to relieve my pain, and help me get out of bed to live another day for Him.

Whether its physical pain, emotional pain due to depression, pain in sorrow of loss of a loved one, a wayward child, or financial woes, the Great Comforter Who lives within you is right beside you wrapping His immeasurable compassionate arms around you like a warm and cozy quilt ready to enlighten you that He will never leave you nor forsake you. He is there to relieve your heavy burden and take it upon Himself. For the great three in One through Christ says, "Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light." Matthew 11:28-30 (NIV).

Dear Lord, I come before You with a grateful heart that You have given me the Comforter to live within me forever. Whenever I am in pain, whatever it may be, may I rest in Your everlasting arms as you take my burden upon Yourself and provide rest for my weary soul. In Jesus name, Amen.
